Thirty years ago, marine muralist Wyland painted a mural outside the Smithsonian's National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute's Visitor Center as part of his "Whaling Walls" series. Wyland has returned to the zoo with paintbrush in hand to complete Whaling Wall 102, paying homage to the coral preservation work Smithsonian scientists conduct. Senior research scientist Dr. Mary Hagedorn joined Wyland to paint the mural and explained some of the ways researchers are saving coral. Learn more at
