Kaman HH-43B Huskie 🚁 Flying the first USAF rescue helicopter to arrive in Southeast Asia and the last to leave, HH-43 aircrews saved more lives in combat than crews flying any other USAF helicopter. One of our most dramatic rescues, filled with tragedy and triumph, happened on this day in 1997. Battling storm force winds and enormous waves, the volunteer crew of RNLI Lerwick helped to rescue 15 people from the Green Lily. We relive the rescue with the help of our Coxswain that day, Hewitt Clark. Hewitt went on to be awarded our Gold Medal for his incredible seamanship - 25 years later another has yet to be given.
