Hopes are high for House of the Dragon season 3, but months ahead of its 2026 premiere, the HBO series might have just been set up for failure.

Creative disagreements over the adaptation and direction of the series led to Martin being sidelined.

According to THR's sources, after a Zoom call involving Condal explaining his vision for season 3 saw Martin allegedly share objections and state "this is not my story any longer," HBO reportedly asked Martin to step away from House of the Dragon entirely – though he was brought back into the fold months later.

HBO is developing Game of Thrones prequels and even sequels, including A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, House of the Dragon, and more.
